Snow is a welcome visitor to the high desert of northern New Mexico. It melts slowly and refreshes the aquifer; it quenches the thirst of the ponderosa pines. I like it because it adds a beautiful, colorful element to what in wintertime is a somewhat drab-colored landscape. Thanks to the clear air at 7000 feet, the shadows cast upon it can be a stunning blue.
