Authentically Human
Having experimented a good deal with AI in both art and writing, I've come to the conclusion that the act of creating must remain in the hands of us humans. I no longer use it for inspiration in my work.
People sometimes ask me, "Well, if you won't use AI for ideas, do you use it for critiques?" AI is indeed most useful in making suggestions for improvement, yet there is a danger: these suggestions tend to sand off the corners and remove what makes my work unique.
My paintings start as reference sketches made on-location in either oil, pastel or gouache, and then I head to the studio where I pull out my brushes and squeeze out paint. From initial sketch to the final varnish, my work is AI-free—not even for critiques.
