My New Book!

After almost a year of work, I’m happy to announce that my new book, Beautiful Landscape Painting Outdoors: Mastering Plein Air, is available now from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

This is the comprehensive guide to painting outdoors.  It gives you everything you need to know about plein air painting, from A to Z.  Fifteen master artists share their knowledge—and their secrets—in this 160-page book that is packed with demonstrations in the major mediums, helpful techniques and many, many, many gorgeous images.

I’ve written the book so both beginner and advanced painters will benefit from it.  If you’re a beginner, you’ll learn everything you need to get started and, better yet, how to have an enjoyable and satisfying experience.  If you’re an advanced painter, you’ll learn the tricks that the masters learned the hard way, through long experience.  (All you have to do is read the book!)

It is a soup to nuts discussion of the major things to consider when painting. Subjects include developing a center of interest, using value, hue and chroma contrasts, using sketches, etc. The illustrations and demonstrations are in many mediums by a great selection of really enjoyable artists.

Thank you Michael for a well written and very informative book. From the field with sketches, Photographs, Plein Air, and back to the studio, you gathered a wealth of knowledge from many Artist, Thank you very very much…

I’m also interviewing the artists on my YouTube channel.  Click on the links below for the interviews.

The book is extremely well thought out and organized. He has chosen outstanding artist along with himself to give quality suggestions in oil, acrylic and pastel painting. They include suggestions on pallet colors and every different type of location. I love the book and use it constantly for reference. I am new to plein aire and I am thankful to have found his book. Thank you for your talent and look forward to another publication.

This book was recommended by my art book club, and it didn’t disappoint. We practiced with the demos (not to sell, of course, but to learn) and discussed the awesome tips that were included in the book. I liked that the author didn’t just include his own paintings, but included paintings and tips from several different artists with different mediums/painting styles.
