Would You Like to Organize a Painting Retreat?

Would you like to organize a painting retreat for you and your group? If you live in or near a scenic spot, or have a retreat facility, I’ll be happy to join your group as the artist-in-residence. I will travel to the location and give the group demonstrations, help at the easel, critiques and more. And you get to join the retreat for free!

Here’s how my typical retreats run:

Each day after breakfast, I lead a critique session of work done the day before. After critiques, we go painting as a group, led to a location that I have either painted at or previewed with the host. Lunches, depending on the location, are either in the field, back at the lodging, or at a local restaurant. Afternoons are more free-form. Participants may continue to paint as a group or go off on their own to paint or explore. I suggest areas to paint in or optional activities. Depending on the retreat location, we may visit a local artist’s studio, a museum or gallery. Dinners are sometimes communal, sometimes at a local establishment.

The typical participant is an experienced plein air painter who knows how to paint and handle gear.

The goal of the retreat is to give the participant an enjoyable and productive experience in the company of like-minded painters. Camaraderie is the key to the success of the program. Retreats vary in size, usually depending on accommodations, they can be as small as 3 or 4 participants or up to 10 or 12 participants.

Your duties as host: Arrange accommodations, preview painting locations, collect deposits and final payments from participants, assist in getting participants to the locations with directions and maps.

Terms: $375/person for five days, travel and meals negotiable. And don’t forget, you get the retreat for free! (Not including meals, lodging, travel.)
